GEMINAE partners
What is GEMINAE?
The GEMINAE programme, led by the UNITA alliance, aims to establish a network of ‘sister’ universities outside Europe, primarily in Romance-language countries. It encourages the sharing of best practices (teaching, research, innovation, societal impact) and facilitates the mobility of students, teachers and researchers.
Objectives and areas of action
- Dissemination of best practices: laboratories, teaching, governance, administration
- Exchanges and mobility: investment in virtual programmes, staff weeks, co-location (COIL), BIP, rural mobility
- PhD and research: opportunity for GEMINAE academics to undertake PhDs or research missions within UNITA
Recent events and initiatives
- Pau Conference (20–23 September 2023): UNITA welcomed 15 non-European universities and presented its advances in digital education
- Scientific projects originating from GEMINAE: for example, a Franco-Colombian project on collaborative artistic practices, funded by the ECOS Nord programme, initiated during the Pau meetings (April 2025)
GEMINAE Best Practices Awards
Held every two years, these awards recognise up to six best practices in higher education (teaching, research, regional impact, sustainability, governance, inclusion).
Recent timeline:
2024–2025 call for entries: open from 15 December 2024 to 15 April 2025, with the jury, results and ceremony scheduled for late May/September 2025.
